Originally this dish is cooked with rohu fish , but I have used sea bass fish , which tastes very similar to rohu .Fish pieces marinated and fried lightly then cooked in mustard and sesame paste gravy

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Fish pieces medium sized 3
  2. Kalonji seeds 1 tsp
  3. Onion 1
  4. Ginger 1/2 inches long
  5. Garlic pods 1 _2
  6. Yellow mustard seeds 1 tsp
  7. White Sesame seeds whole 1 tbsp
  8. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  9. Green Chilli 4

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak mustard seeds and sesame seeds in warm water for 20 mins
  2. Now make smooth paste with green chilli , turmeric powder , soaked mustard seeds and sesame seeds
  3. Wash fish , marinate with turmeric powder and salt , keep aside for 15 mins
  4. Shallow fry lightly , no need to make brown
  5. Now in the same pan add kalonji seeds , saute for 30 seconds , add onion , garlic and ginger , saute until the onion turns brown , add mustard seeds and sesame seeds paste , stir continuously add salt also
  6. Add fish , mix with the paste
  7. Now add 1/2 cup warm water
  8. Boil the gravy and fish for 6_7 mins in medium heat
  9. Check for salt
  10. Switch off gas
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice
