Red Chicken Curry

Ingredients to make Red Chicken Curry

  • chicken – 250 Grams
  • Kashmiri red chilli Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • cumin Powder/ Jeera – 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tablespoon
  • yogurt/Curd – 2 tablespoon
  • salt to taste
  • For Red Paste:
  • Kashmiri red chilli Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • garlic – 15 small pods
  • water – as required
  • Other Ingredients:
  • oil – 2 tablespoon
  • onion – 1 big sliced
  • bay leaves – 1
  • cloves – 1
  • cinnamon – 1-inch stick
  • coriander Leaves – 2 tablespoons for garnishing

How to make Red Chicken Curry

  1. Add in ginger garlic paste, Curd, Chilli Powder, Cumin Powder, Garam Masala Powder, Turmeric Powder and Salt in a bowl and mix them.
  2. Wash and clean the chicken well. Add the chicken into the marination masala. Mix them well. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan. Add in Bay leaves, Cinnamon and cloves. Add in sliced onion and saute until glossy. Add in Coriander leaves and saute them for few minutes.
  4. Add in the marinated chicken mixture into the onion. Start cooking them. Add required water. Close the vessel and leave it until the chicken is cooked tender. Stir occasionally. If using a pressure cooker cook for 3 whistles in low flame.
  5. Add the chilli powder and garlic into a blender and required water into a blender. Blend them into a smooth paste. Add the red paste into the cooked chicken.
  6. Give a quick stir and cook until the oil separates in the sides of the vessel.
  7. Beautiful and tasty Red chicken Curry is now ready to serve.

My Tip:

Kashmiri Chilli powder is the key ingredient for the vibrant red colour of the gravy so do not replace it. The curry can be made watery or thick so adjust the water consistency accordingly.
