Ingredients to make Shakshuka

  • Eggs - 4
  • Fully ripe Tomatoes - 5
  • Finely Chopped Onions - 2 (Medium Sized)
  • Finely Chopped Garlic - 5
  • Green Chillies - 1 (Chopped)
  • Red Bell Pepper - 1 (Roasted and Sliced)
  • Coriander Leaves- Handful (finely chopped)
  • Worcestershire Sauce - 1 tbsp
  • Paprika - 1 tsp
  • Tomato Ketchup - 1 1/2tsp
  • salt as per taste
  • Black Pepper Crushed - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli Flakes - 1 tsp
  • olive oil - 1 tbsp
  • Butter - 1 tbsp

How to make Shakshuka

  1. Rub a little oil on the red bell pepper and roast it in the gas oven. Once roasted peel the skin and slice it.
  2. Boil the tomatoes, peel the skin and mash them using a fork.
  3. Heat a heavy bottom pan or a skillet. Add the butter and olive oil. Now add the chopped onions, garlic, green chillies, red bell pepper and saute them. Once the onion softens add the mashed tomatoes.
  4. Now add salt, sugar, pepper, paprika, cumin, tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and mix. Cook this for 10 mins.
  5. Make 4 deep wells in the pan and add the raw eggs. Cover the pan and cook it for 10 mins. till the eggs are done.
  6. Garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves and red chilli flakes. Do not forget to enjoy this dish with some crusty garlic bread and let me know how it was!

My Tip:

I sometimes like to add Meat Masala preferably from Everest which gives it an Indian twist.
