Ingredients to make Thattai

  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Urad dal flour - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 2 tbsp
  • fried gram - 2 tbsp
  • sesame seeds - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • salt - as needed
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Butter - 2 tsp

How to make Thattai

  1. Soak channa dal for 30 minutes, drain water, keep aside.
  2. Slightly saute rice flour and urad dal flour in a hot kadai for one minute, to this add salt, soaked channa dal, sesame seeds, fried gram powder, red chilli powder, heat butter and pour over the mix.
  3. Mix everything together by adding water. Let the flour set for few minutes.
  4. Make balls out of the dough, grease your hands with oil, spread the ball to a thick round disc shape with hands over a plastic cover. Pierce the disc with fork all over to avoid fluffing up like a poori.
  5. Deep fry in oil. When it is cooled, store in an airtight box.
My Tip: Adding heated butter and fried gram flour adds crispiness
