Onion Saagu..

Ingredients to make Onion Saagu..

  • onion.....3
  • ginger paste......1/2 spoon
  • turmeric powder...1/2 spoon
  • chilly powder.....1/4 or 1/2 spoon
  • green chilly.....2
  • grated coconut.....4 spoon
  • fried gram(putani)......3 spoon
  • lime juice.....1 spoon
  • salt...1 spoon
  • curry leaves..10
  • asafoetida....1/4 spoon
  • Red chilly....1
  • urad dal....1 spoon
  • channa dal.....1 spoon
  • mustard.....1/4 spoon
  • coconut oil.....2 spoon
  • sugar......1 spoon
  • coriander leaves....few

How to make Onion Saagu..

  1. Grind grated coconut,fried gram and 1 green chilly with water and keep it aside.
  2. Make a tempering using kadai with oil,mustard,urad dal,channa dal,red chilly, curry leaves and asofoetida in it.
  3. add sliced onions into the kadai and fry them and add sugar and little salt.
  4. Add ginger paste and one green cilly(chopped)to the same kadai fry them.
  5. Now add turmeric and chilly powder to it with little water and close the kadai leave it for a while.
  6. Add the grinded masala,water(3 cup or 4 cup) and salt to the kadai and allow it to cook
  7. Add coriander leaves to it and mix them.
  8. Finally add lime juice to it and off the stove.
  9. Serve it while it is hot.

My Tip:

If the saagu becomes too thick after cooling, just add some water and salt to it and heat it.
