Soft onion dumplings served with onion tomato gravy,which goes well with roti,naan,kulcha or jeera rice also.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. FOR KOFTA:
  2. Onions-4
  3. Gramflour-2 tbsp
  4. Salt
  5. Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
  6. Chilli powder-1 tsp
  7. Cumin powder-1/2 sp
  8. Coriander Powder-1 tsp
  9. Asafoetida-1 pinch
  10. Carom seeds-1/2 tsp
  11. Soda-1 pinch
  12. For gravy-
  13. Onions-2
  14. Tomatoes-4
  15. Cashew nuts-10
  16. Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
  17. Green chilles-2
  18. Bayleaf-1
  19. Cinnamon-2 pieces
  20. Cloves-5
  21. cardamom-4
  22. Asafoetida-1 pinch
  23. Kasuri methi-1/2 tsp
  24. Turmeric-1/2 tsp
  25. Chilli powder-1 tsp
  26. Coriander Powder-1 tsp
  27. Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
  28. Garam masala-1 tsp
  29. Salt
  30. Cream-1 tbsp
  31. Coriander for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Peel and grate the onions in a big bowl.
  2. Add gram flour and rest of ingredients under kofta heading.Lightly mix everything without adding water as onion leaves water.
  3. The batter has to be thick but not like dough,then only the koftas will be soft.
  4. Keep oil to heat and put small koftas with a spoon into the oil.
  5. Fry on medium flame so that they are cooked from inside and become golden.Prepare all koftas.
  6. Now make a paste of garlic ,ginger,green chillies,onion and cashews (soaked in water for 15 minutes).
  7. Make tomato puree from 4 tomatoes.
  8. Take a tbsp of oil in a pan and add cumin seeds,bayleaf,cloves, cinnamon,cardamom,asafoetida.
  9. After they are fried add the onion paste.
  10. Saute for 1 to 2 minutes and then add tomato puree.
  11. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes and then add all spices like sakt,turmeric,chilli powder,cumin powder,kasuri methi,garam masala.
  12. Mix properly and saute till oil is released.Add a tsp of sugar.
  13. Now take kofas in a separate bowl and gravy in another one.Garnish with cream and coriander.
  14. When you are ready to serve dinner,just take 2 koftas in a bowl and pour 2 tbsp of gravy.Serve hot with roti,naan or kulcha.
