Ingredients to make Segdalu

  • 1 cup sooji
  • 1 cup Rice flour
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1 tbsp moong dal
  • 1 tsp hing
  • 2 tsp Red Chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2-3 green chillies chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1tbsp sesame seeds for garnishing
  • Oil for Deep frying

How to make Segdalu

  1. Take all the above ingredients except oil in a big bowl. Stir it properly.
  2. Turn on the gas and stir all the ingredients in a slow flame till it becomes a soft dough. Turn off gas and cool.
  3. Take little oil in a palm and take small portions of dough and make small balls. On a plate take 1 tsp sesame seeds and spread over the plate.
  4. Keep 5-6 balls on a plate and roll them on plate so that all sesame seeds coat on the balls. In this way make the rest dough.
  5. Now roll the sesame seeds balls and shape them like bangles as shown in the picture. Heat oil and deep fry all the segdalus till brown.
  6. Serve this with tomato chutney or sauce.
My Tip: Initially I prepared with Riceflour only...but when we moved out of India its not easily available...so use my aunts tip replace sooji with Riceflour never feel any difference...n its more easy to prepare with sooji as it absorbs water fast n so cooking done easily
