About Dangar – Authentic Maharashtrian side dish recipe Recipe

Urad dal or Split black lentils are roasted well and grinded along with roasted cumin seeds and Asafoetida and stored in an air tight container for longer period. Also, Dangar flour is readily available in Maharashtra kokan region. It is very easy to prepare and can be eaten as a side dish or main dish along with dal rice or Chapati’s or bhakris. In Maharashtra, it’s a very popular dish among farmers and Maharashtrians due to its easy preparation, and healthy benefits. I remember when I was child my granny used to store dangar flour for rainy season due to unavailability of healthy and fresh vegetables at that time. In remote locations of Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala they used to have this Jatai or stone tools for hand-grinding the pulses and grains. We still have one at our native home. Flour made using these tools tastes awesome and have a unique taste. This is authentic dish so I have not done any changes.
