ABOUT Onion Pulao RECIPE

It is a quick and easy pressure cooker pulao recipe where basmati rice is cooked with onion and some whole spices and served with brown onions.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Basmati rice - 1 cup
  2. Onion - 1 medium size and 1 large both sliced
  3. Green Chilly - 1 slit half way for garnish 
  4. Cumin - ⅛ tsp 
  5. Green cardamom - 2 nos large
  6. Cinnamon - a small piece 
  7. Cloves - 3 nos
  8. Bay leaf - a small one
  9. Salt to taste 
  10. Oil - 2 tbsp 
  11. Water - 1½-2 cups

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly 3-4 times and soak for about 15 mins. 
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add the large onion slices and fry them till brown. Drain and keep aside. 
  3. In the same oil fry the green chilly for about 2 mins. Keep aside along with the fried onions. 
  4. Add the whole spices and let it splutter. Add the medium onion slices and fry till it turns soft. 
  5. Add the soaked basmati rice and saute for a min. 
  6. Add water, salt to taste and few fried onions and pressure cook for 3 whistles. 
  7. Once the pressure is released add some fried onions and fluff it gently with a fork. 
  8. Garnish with the remaining fried onions and green chilly and serve.
