Ingredients to make Cheese Chilly

  • 250 grams paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 2 tablespoon corn starch/ cornflour
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder (lal mirch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder (kali mirch)
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • Salt as required
  • 4 medium sized onions, quartered and separated in squares
  • 2-3 small bell peppers/capsicum
  • 6-7 Garlic cloves
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp green chilly sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoon water added in the leftover cornflour to add glaze and thicken the gravy
  • 1 cup water for gravy

How to make Cheese Chilly

  1. Grind garlic, cloves and green chillies to make it into a paste. Chop onions and capsicum in squares.
  2. In a mixing bowl, take paneer cubes and add cornflour, red chilli powder, black pepper powder, salt and a little oil to it.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pan. When the oil is hot enough place paneer cubes in it.
  4. Flip it over and cook from both sides till light golden in colour. Drain it on a kitchen paper.
  5. Heat oil in a pan and put garlic green chilly paste in it.
  6. Cook until the raw smell of garlic goes and then add capsicum.
  7. Cook till it gets a little tender and then add onions.
  8. Let it cook for 2 minutes and add soy sauce, green chilly sauce, tomato ketchup, black pepper powder and salt.
  9. Stir well and add water and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Now add the leftover cornflour paste so that the gravy thickens a bit.
  11. Lastly add paneer cubes and give it a nice stir.
  12. Simmer for 2 minutes and your tangy and tasty paneer chilly is ready to be served.
My Tip: You can also shallow fry paneer cubes instead of frying them.
