Orangy Makhana Kheer

Ingredients to make Orangy Makhana Kheer

  • Full cream milk 1 litre
  • Phool makhane 2 cups
  • Orange segments 1/2 cup
  • sugar 1 cup or as per taste
  • Chopped dry fruits like cashews, green pistachios and raisins 2 teaspoons
  • A pinch saffron strands
  • A pinch cinnamon powder
  • cardamom powder 1/4th teaspoon
  • For the garnish:
  • Chopped orange segments 2 pieces
  • Chopped dry nuts 1 teaspoon

How to make Orangy Makhana Kheer

  1. Dry roast the phool makhana in a wok at a low flame for 5-7 minutes and crush them roughly/coarsely.
  2. Boil milk in a deep pan and add crushed makhana to the milk and cook on a low flame for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
  3. Cook until the makhane become soft and cooked and the mixture thickens.
  4. Add sugar and mix well.
  5. Add dry fruits, cardamom powder, cinnamon powder and saffron soaked in milk and cook for two minutes.
  6. Now switch off the flame and set the thickened kheer aside to cool.
  7. Add chilled orange segments and mix well.
  8. Garnish with dry fruits.
  9. Keep in refrigerator for 2 hours.
  10. Serve chilled.

My Tip:

The orange segments should be added when the thickened kheer is completely cooled.
