Dal musallam

Ingredients to make Dal musallam

  • 1 small onion chopped and sauted in butter
  • 1 and 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 medium sized tomato chopped
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoon jeera seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 2 big cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

How to make Dal musallam

  1. Take the pressure cooker, saute the onions in a little ghee and add the dal along with 3 and half cups of water.
  2. Add to it chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Once the steam from the pressure cooker dies, open it carefully and set to a medium heat on a gas stove. Add tomatoes and cook it for a few minutes.
  4. Turn the heat down and add garam masala and yogurt.The low heat will prevent the curd from breaking down.
  5. While the dal is simmering, get the tadka ready by heating ghee in a small pan.
  6. Once it is heated add green chillies, garlic and cumin seeds.
  7. Just as the garlic turns brown add the tadka into the dal and turn off the heat. Then close the lid.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.
My Tip: Note to add the tadka just before serving the dal.

it bit confusing. first u said the onions r to saute in butter n now in the steps u again sautéed those onions in ghee... so v hv to saute in butter or ghee?
