Falafel is an arabic fried dish made with chickpeas. This is my first try and I'm happy with the result. This is actually a healthy dish, you can even bake or air fry this to avoid deep frying.

Ingredients to make Falafel

  • 1 cup chick peas Soaked
  • 1/2 cup Fawa Beans Soaked
  • 1 cup Parsely
  • 3/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 5 to 6 cloves Garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp Bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • salt as per taste
  • oil for frying

How to make Falafel

  1. Soak the chick peas and fawa beans separately for at least 12 hours or overnight. Coarse grind the beans well. Now grind the parsley, coriander leaves, mint leaves, onion and garlic to a fine paste.
  2. Add this to the ground beans and mix well. Add the powders and spices to this and mix well. Keep this aside for 15 minutes. Now heat oil in a kadai.
  3. Now shape this in to small vadas and fry in the oil till its dark brown and the inner part is cooked too. Drain the excess oil. Serve hot with tahina sauce, hummus, pita bread or any roti.
