Ingredients to make Banana flower vada

  • Banana flower - 1
  • Channa dhal - 1 cup
  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies - 5
  • Onion - 2
  • Curry leaves - a fist ful
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil - as needed

How to make Banana flower vada

  1. Soak channa dal and toor dal in water for two hours. Then drain the water completely. Add a little fried gram, green chillies, fennel seeds and grind everything together coarsely in mixie without adding any water.
  2. Clean the banana flower. Chop into small pieces or just pulse once in the mixie and keep aside. (Till using banana flower, keep it in water mixed with curd to avoid discoloration). While grinding dal you can put banana flower too.
  3. To the ground mix, add salt, nicely chopped onion, curry leaves and coriander leaves and mix well.
  4. Make balls out of it and flatten it and deep fry in oil. Serve hot with rice and sambhar.
My Tip: Adding 1/4 cup of soaked channa dhal without grinding will add crispiness and taste of vada.
