About Fish Curry with Raw Mango / Meen Curry Manga Ittathu Recipe

This is a delicious fish recipe which is cooked in a tangy raw mango sauce.

Fish Curry with Raw Mango / Meen Curry Manga Ittathu

Ingredients to make Fish Curry with Raw Mango / Meen Curry Manga Ittathu

  • 1/2 kg of fish - cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 5-6 shallots sliced
  • 3 tsp of finely chopped ginger
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • 1 raw mango - peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 and 1/2 cup of grated coconut
  • salt to taste
  • 2 shallots sliced
  • 1 strand of curry leaves
  • 3-4 tbsp oil

How to make Fish Curry with Raw Mango / Meen Curry Manga Ittathu

  1. Grind the ingredients mentioned from number 2- 6 with a little water to form a paste. Then heat a pan, and transfer the ground paste and salt to it, let it cook while stirring occasionally.
  2. While this cooks, grind the grated coconut along with 2 tbsp of water. Add this into the pan and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust the gravy by adding water as required. Bring this mixture to a boil.
  3. Next add the fish pieces into it. Simmer the heat and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Rotate the pan slightly to mix everything in between. Turn off the heat.
  4. Take another pan, heat the oil. Once the oil is hot, drop in the shallots and curry leaves. Once they are fried, drop this mixture on top of the fish curry.

My Tip:

Do not stir the fish, but just rotate the entire pan in a circular motion, instead of stirring. This helps to prevent the fish pieces from breaking. Cleaning the fish with vinegar and salt dissolved in water would help eliminate the fishy smell to a large extend.
