Amba Khatta/ (Sweet & Sour Green Mango relish)

Ingredients to make Amba Khatta/ (Sweet & Sour Green Mango relish)

  • 3 nos medium magoes cut into cubes
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp Nigella seeds
  • 2 nos dry red chillies
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin chilli powder
  • A pinch of salt as per taste
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • A sprig of curry leaves

How to make Amba Khatta/ (Sweet & Sour Green Mango relish)

  1. wash and peel the mangoes. Cut them into cubes and keep aside. I prefer to have the peel on while making the khatta.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan, add the nigella seeds, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Add the raw mango cubes, salt and turmeric, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  4. Add ¼ cup of water, sugar and mix well. Cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  5. Turn off the heat and add the roasted cumin and red chilli powder.
  6. Serve as a side dish with rice , dal , curry.
