A tangy kadhi prepared from raw mango is an excellent side dish which goes well with steamed rice and veggie stir fry.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw Mangoes 2, Medium sized
  2. Green Chillies 2-3, vertically slit
  3. Rice flour 1 tablespoon
  4. Coconut Milk 1 Cup
  5. Turmeric, pinch
  6. Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Sugar to taste
  9. For Seasoning
  10. Ghee 1 tablespoon
  11. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  12. Hing/ Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon
  13. Curry leaves 8-10

Instructions

  1. Add little water to the rice flour and make a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
  2. Wash and clean the raw mangoes.
  3. Immerse it in enough water in a vessel and cook them in boiling water until they become tender.
  4. Once cool squeeze the pulp and discard the skin along with seed.
  5. Mash the pulp with a fork.
  6. Add the rice flour paste, enough water, sliced green chilli, turmeric, salt, sugar and mix well.
  7. Let it boil for 5 minutes over low flame.
  8. Next add coconut milk and simmer for 2 minutes.
  9. Meanwhile, heat ghee in skillet.
  10. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.
  11. Now add asafoetida and curry leaves.
  12. Pour the seasoning on kadhi and cover the vessel with lid.
  13. Garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve it with steamed rice.
