Dahi Vada

Ingredients to make Dahi Vada

  • For Vada:
  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil For Frying
  • For Dahi:
  • 1 liter Curd
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 Green chillies
  • Coriander Leaves
  • 1 medium piece ginger
  • Sugar as per taste
  • Salt as needed
  • For Tempering:
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red chillies 1- 2
  • Cummin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves 5 - 6
  • Red chilli powder to sprinkle - a pinch
  • Coriander Leaves for Garnishing - 1 tbsp

How to make Dahi Vada

  1. For Vadas: Soak the urad dal for a few hours. Grind it with very less water. The batter should be very thick. Add salt.
  2. Heat oil and take out small balls out of the batter and put into hot oil. Fry till golden. Now drain out excess oil and put in water.
  3. For Dahi: In a large bowl mix curd and water well. Add the green chillies, chopped ginger, salt and sugar as per taste, coriander leaves and mix well.
  4. Squeeze each vada well from the water. Put these to the prepared dahi. Keep in the fridge for it to soak.
  5. For Tempering: Before serving heat little oil add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and dry red chillies. Add curry leaves and pour over the dahi vadas.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and sprinkle red chillies on top. Enjoy the dahi vadas!
