Ingredients to make Kappa Upperi or Thalichathu

  • ½ kg Kappa (Tapioca)
  • 5 Whole red chillies
  • 7 Shallots
  • Salt as per taste
  • Mustard seeds a few
  • Curry leaves 5 - 6
  • Oil as required

How to make Kappa Upperi or Thalichathu

  1. Cut the tapioca into medium pieces. Boil this in more water till more than half done. Drain off the excess water. Crush the chillies and shallots.
  2. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seeds when it starts spluttering add curry leaves. Now add the crushed chillies and shallots. Saute well till the raw smell goes off.
  3. Now put the tapioca and salt in it and mix well. Close with lid for 5 minutes in a low flame. Serve hot with boiled rice and fish curry.
