Ingredients to make Oats Idli recipe

  • Oats – 1 cup
  • semolina – 1 cup
  • ghee – 1 1/2 tsp
  • salt
  • mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • chana dal – 1 tsp
  • cashew nut – 2tbs
  • coriander – 3tbs chopped
  • Dill leaves –1/2 cup finely chopped
  • carrot – 1/2 cup grated
  • curd – 1 1/2 cup
  • oil

How to make Oats Idli recipe

  1. Heat a pan by adding some oil in it, when it is hot, add mustard seeds, allow it to sizzle, add cashews and chana dal, fry until it turns to light brown in colour. Stir fry (take care while frying, do not over roast the ingredients).
  2. When nuts turns brown in colour, add chopped dill leaves and coriander, saute until raw smell disappears. Turn off the flame, allow it to cool at room temperature. Add prepared seasoning to oats idli mixture, combine together.
  3. Grease Idli moulds with oil, add grated carrot in each mould (as shown in the image) and keep ready. Add curds into the mixture and mix to Idli consistency. The consistency must not be too thick nor thin.
  4. Fill the prepared batter in the moulds, add water to the base of the steamer, arrange the mould in it, close the lid of the steamer and cook on a high flame for 10 minutes.
  5. Turn off the flame after cooking for 10 minutes. Rest for 5 minutes, before you open the lid of the steamer.
  6. Remove the mould from the steamer, remove idli’s with the help of a flat spoon from the mould carefully, one by one. Nutritious super soft Oats Idli is ready to enjoy with coconut chutney, sambar or chutney powder.

My Tip:

I have added chopped dill leaves to prepare this recipe, eating herbs or adding herbs in breakfast has numerous health benefits, as dill leaves have special taste and flavour which enhances the taste of the dish. Along with grated carrot you can add cashews, grated coconuts, a tomato slice and chopped coriander to attract your kids to eat. No need to fry semolina as ghee is added to avoid stickiness to prepare idli’s.
