About Goan Sannas Recipe

No feast in Goa is complete without Sannas. My granny always made sannas for feasts using this recipe.

Goan Sannas

Ingredients to make Goan Sannas

  • 500 gms semolina
  • 200 gms urad dal
  • salt to taste

How to make Goan Sannas

  1. Tie the semolina in a cloth and steam for 15 minutes. Cool and crush with hands. Sprinkle little water to make it slightly wet.
  2. Soak urad dal in water for 2 hours. Grind to a fine paste with little water. Do not throw the rest of the water away.
  3. In a big vessel, mix urad dal paste and semolina. Add salt as per taste.
  4. Make a batter of pouring consistency, adding a little water if required. Leave overnight in a warm place to ferment.
  5. Next morning, grease a plate with oil and pour batter in it till 3/4 full.
  6. Steam in a steamer for 7-8 minutes. Cool, demould and serve with meat gravy.

My Tip:

Idli steamers can be used to make small Sannas. I use bigger plates though.
