Soak Urad dal and rice in a bowl of water overnight.
Grind this in a blender the next day to make a paste.
Add onion, green chillies, ginger, salt and curry leaves. Mix well.
Take a good portion in your hands and flatten it, make a hole in the center.
heat oil in a deep frying pan, fry the vadas till golden brown.
Remove and place them over paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve hot with sambar or chutney.

I never add rice to vada...i make only using urad dal. Will try this recipe... Are they crisp because of rice?
