ABOUT Rasila Karela RECIPE

Juicy stuffed Bittergourd flavoured with selected spices is best eaten with soft phulka and steamed rice.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Tender small Bitterguard 5 to 6
  2. Grated onion 3
  3. Besan/chana dal flour 1/2 tablespoon
  4. Oil 1 to 2 tablespoon
  5. Saunf / Fennel seeds 1 teaspoon
  6. Amchur powder/ Raw Mango powder 1 teaspoon
  7. Sugar 1 teaspoon
  8. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  9. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Coriander Powder 2 teaspoons
  11. Roasted and crushed peanuts 2 teaspoons
  12. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Slightly peel off Bittergourd and apply some salt on it. Keep covered for 10 to 15 minutes and later squeeze out excess water.
  2. Dry roast besan till it changes colour
  3. In a mixing bowl take all the mentioned Ingredients along with grated onion
  4. Mix them well
  5. Stuff the ready masala/stuffing into Bittergourd
  6. Heat oil in a pan and crackle 1 teaspoon of Saunf / Fennel seeds
  7. Carefully place all stuffed Bittergourd and cook covered on low heat. Add remaining masala also.
  8. Check and turn in between
  9. After some time Bittergourd will change in color and soft so that they are well cooked. Now sprinkle some Raw Mango powder/Amchur on cooked Bittergourd and cook for some time.
  10. Rasila Karela is ready to serve
  11. Yummy tempting Stuffed Bittergourd or Rasile Karele are ready to melt in Mouth

Can we use grated raw mango in place of amchoor in stuffing?
