Ingredients to make Polish Potato Pancakes

  • 500 gms large potatoes
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • Salt to season
  • Butter for pan-frying
  • Sour cream and Castor sugar for serving
  • Sambal Oelek - Hot Chilli Paste Recipe:
  • 1 kg red chillies
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

How to make Polish Potato Pancakes

  1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Using medium–size holes, grate them into a bowl.
  2. Add in the eggs and flour, season with salt and combine it well.
  3. Heat a little butter in a large frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Once the butter starts bubbling, cook large spoonfuls of the potato mixture for 2–3 minutes on each sides or until it is golden in colour and crisp.
  5. To make the hot chilli paste, put the listed ingredients in a blender and make a coarse paste.
  6. Take a kadai, cook the paste on a high flame for about 7 minutes, while stirring continously. Then cool it and refrigerate in a sterilized glass bottle. (If dried chillies are being used then soak them in hot water for about 15 mins first).
  7. Serve hot with sour cream and castor sugar or Sambal Oelek - Hot Chilli Paste.

My Tip:

This dish is best served with cream and sugar, for low calories you can eat it with flavoured yogurt. Since I like mine with a little spice, I have added some Sambal Oelek - Hot Chilli Paste.
