ABOUT Bottle Gourd Fries RECIPE

Lots of dishes can be prepared using bottle gourd. Bottle gourd plays important role in weight loss as it contains lots of water and minerals. Apart from this, it is also beneficial in urinary tract infections, insomnia etc. In this recipe, I have prepared fries using Bottle gourd, gram flour and few spices. It tastes awesome with any dip or sauce.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bottle Gourd – 1 cup (Cut into long thick Strips)
  2. Gram Flour or Besan – 1cup
  3. Asafoetida – ½ tsp
  4. Garam Masala – ½ tbsp
  5. Garlic cloves– 3
  6. Green chili – 2 broken or finely chopped
  7. Finely chopped Coriander – 1/4th cup
  8. Salt - As per taste
  9. Oil for Frying – 2 cups
  10. Water as required for preparing thick batter

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel (if tender keep peel as it is), remove seeds if any and cut into bit thick strips. Add salt and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Make a thick and coarse paste of garlic cloves, green chilies and coriander in a mortal pastel or blender.
  3. In a bowl mix gram flour, asafoetida, salt, green paste and garam masala.
  4. Make a thick batter adding water slowly.
  5. Heat oil in a wok or kadai. Dip and properly coat bottle gourd pieces into the prepared batter. Fry on medium low flame until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve hot with any dip or Chutney or sauce.
