Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 1/2 cups rice
  2. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  3. 3-5 green cardamoms
  4. 1 cup jaggery
  5. 2 teaspoons til or sesame seeds
  6. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  7. 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  8. Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak rice in water for 2 hours.Meanwhile heat a small pan and add sesame seeds and grated coconut,toast till golden brown.Keep aside.
  2. Now remove water from the soaked rice and blend them in a blender with cardamoms ,black pepper powder and 1/4 cup of water to make a fine paste.Keep aside.
  3. Heat a heavy bottom utensil on medium heat and add grated coconut,sesame seeds and jaggery.Add 3/4 cup of water so that the jaggery gets dissolved easily.
  4. Now add the rice paste and keep stirring the mixture on low flame so that the water gets evaporated and a chapati like dough is formed.The athirasa dough is ready .Take the dough out and let it cool down.
  5. Make small lemon sized balls from the dough and slightly press it between your palms.Deep fry till golden brown, drain well on paper towels to remove excess oil and serve.
