Ingredients to make Sfouf ,A lebanese Turmeric Cake

  • Plain flour - 1 cup
  • Milk - 1/3 C + 2 tbsp (100 ml)
  • Powder Sugar - 120 gm (3/4 C)
  • Vegetable Oil - 60 ml
  • Ground aniseed - 1/2 tsp
  • Semolina - 3 tbsp
  • Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Pine nuts - 3 tbsp (u can replace with other nuts too)
  • White sesame seeds - 1 tbsp

How to make Sfouf ,A lebanese Turmeric Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 180 °C. Place aniseed and 3 tbsp water in a small saucepan over high heat and bring to the boil. Cook for 2 minutes or until reduced to about 1/3 of original. Strain and cool.
  2. Whisk milk and sugar until sugar dissolves. Add oil,aniseed and whisk well with a wooden spoon.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder and turmeric in a large bowl, then make a well in the centre. Pour in milk mixture, fold the batter to combine well, then pour into a greased 6 inch cake pan lined with baking paper. Scatter pine nuts ,sesama seed
  4. Bake for 20-25 mins. Let it cool and enjoy!
