Fatayer : is a middle eastern savoury pie. The fillings I have used are potato (veg) and prawns (non-veg). Both the fillings are typically flavoured with Sprigs Oriental spice

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For dough
  2. 1 cup maida
  3. 1tsp Salt
  4. 1/2 tsp instant active yeast
  5. 1tbsp sour cream
  6. 1tbsp Milk
  7. 1 egg for egg wash
  8. For Filling
  9. 1tsp oil
  10. 1/2 cup boiled, peeled And chopped potatoes
  11. 1/4 cup chopped scallion
  12. 1tsp burnt garlic
  13. 1tsp Malacca Oriental spice blend mix
  14. Salt to taste
  15. 1tsp black pepper powder
  16. For prawns
  17. 1tsp oil
  18. 1 /2cup washed deveined prawns
  19. 1/4 cup chopped scallion
  20. 1tsp burnt garlic
  21. Salt to taste
  22. 1tsp Malacca Oriental spice blend
  23. 1tsp black pepper powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except milk and butter
  2. Now add milk and start kneading the dough
  3. Let it rest for atleast 1 hour
  4. For filling : In a pan pour oil and put potatoes, scallion and burnt garlic
  5. Now add Malacca Oriental spice blend, salt and black pepper.
  6. Mix well and remove from flame
  7. For Prawns : Repeat the same procedure and season well.
  8. Once the dough has doubled in quantity take a small ball and roll it as shown in the picture
  9. Put the filling in the centre and taper both the ends - giving it a boat like shape.
  10. Repeat the process with the remaining dough
  11. Give it an egg wash
  12. Now bake in a preheated oven at 200c for 30minutes
  13. Serve hot.
