ABOUT American Spice Blend Rasam RECIPE

Indian tomato rasam flavoured with fiery fruity American spice blend.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 Tomatoes
  2. 1 lemon sized ball of tamarind
  3. 1 and 1/2 tbsp Sprig American spice blend
  4. Salt to taste
  5. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. 1tbsp Ghee
  7. Fresh chopped coriander for garnish
  8. 1/4 tsp pepper powder
  9. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Boil the tomatoes in enough water until the skin begins to peel off.
  2. Drain the water and allow the tomatoes to cool.
  3. Soak the tamarind in 1/4 cup of water for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Strain and extract the tamarind juice.
  5. Peel the tomatoes once cooled and blend into a puree.
  6. Strain the puree to remove the seeds.
  7. Heat the ghee in a thick bottom pan.
  8. Add the cumin seeds, pepper and turmeric powder.
  9. Once the cumin crackles, add the pureed tomatoes and the tamarind extract.
  10. Mix in the American spice blend and salt.
  11. Bring the rasam to boil and simmer on medium heat for 10-15 minutes .
  12. Turn off the heat and garnish with chopped coriander.
  13. Serve hot - as soup or with steam rice.
