Lebanese Falafel stuffed Pitas

Ingredients to make Lebanese Falafel stuffed Pitas

  • 250 gms Chickpeas(safed chana)- soaked overnight
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • Handful of coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 green chilli, minced
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • For the sauce-
  • ½ cup Thick hung curd
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp tahini(sesame seed paste)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Other Ingredients-
  • 5 Whole wheat pitas
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices

How to make Lebanese Falafel stuffed Pitas

  1. Place the soaked chickpeas in a food processor and blitz till smooth, using minimal water.
  2. Add the onions, garlic paste, coriander, green chilli, cumin powder and salt and mix thoroughly. Add the breadcrumbs and make even sized balls of the mixture.
  3. Deep fry these balls till golden brown.Drain and keep aside.
  4. For the sauce- Whisk curd in a small bowl, add lemon juice, tahini and the crushed garlic clove.
  5. For assembling the falafel stuffed pitas-
  6. Split the pita on one side(lengthwise) to form an opening.Spread a tbsp of the sauce topped with a falafel, sliced tomatoes, onions and lettuce.
  7. Serve with some more sauce(to dip into) on the side.
