ABOUT Sorghum Ravva Biryani - Diabetic Friendly RECIPE

Sorghum or Jowar is considered to be a zero belly diet. Sorghum is gluten free and it makes a complete food for diabetic. Sorghum in the form of Biryani? Yes , sorghum ravva with vegetables together forms a nutritious & healthy food which can be consumed for weight-loss. Unlike the regular biryani, this is a unique biryani for weight-loss as sorghum is a powerhouse of nutrients required for a balanced diet. The taste of the Sorgum ravva biryani is indeed delicious. It can be given to kids as well.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Sorghum ravva – 1cup,
  2. Potato (medium size ) – 1
  3. Onion(medium size) – 1
  4. Oil- 3 tablespoons
  5. Salt- to taste
  6. Water – 3 cups
  7. Bay leaf – small piece
  8. Clove – 1
  9. Green cardamom – 2
  10. Wailong (Marati Mogga) – 1 inch small piece
  11. Cinnamon – 1 inch piece
  12. Star anise- 1/2 inch piece
  13. Caraway seeds/ Shahjeera – 1/2 teaspoon
  14. Clarified butter / ghee – 3 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add the spices, slices of onion. Saute them over medium flame until the onion slices become tender. Now add sliced potatoes. Mix well.
  2. Then add three cups of water, salt to taste and finally add sorghum ravva. Stir it well to prevent lumps.
  3. Cover it with a lid. Allow it to boil on medium flame for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes , low the flame and continue to cook for 10 more minutes until the ravva turns soft. Drizzle ghee on top.
  4. Once the sorghum biryani is cooked properly , turn off the flame. Transfer it into a serving bowl or plate.
  5. Garnish with cucumber slices and serve hot with chutney.
