Greek Gyros pita

Ingredients to make Greek Gyros pita

  • For the CHICKEN: 200 gms boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • olive oil as required
  • 2 tbsp plain curd
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 2 pita breads
  • 2 tsp tomato sauce

How to make Greek Gyros pita

  1. Combine the garlic, lemon juice, red wine, vinegar, 2 tbsp olive oil, yogurt, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl. Whisk together and add the chicken pieces. Marinate for 1 hour.
  2. Peel and cut the potato and place in cold water. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the potato finger till nice golden and crispy.
  3. Drain the oil leaving just a teaspoon. Add in the chicken and saute till well cooked. (You can even broil the chicken here but I prefer sauteing it).
  4. De - frost the pita bread if using frozen, slightly toast the pita bread on a flat pan.
  5. Top with chicken, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and potato fries. Serve immediately.
