ABOUT Spicy Ammini Kozhukattai (Spicy Steamed Rice flour balls) RECIPE

A delicious South Indian Snack that is low on oil, gluten free & steamed.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup Rice Flour
  2. 1.5 cups Water
  3. 2 tsps oil
  4. 1 tsp Urad Dal
  5. 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  7. a pinch of hing
  8. 1-2 nos. Whole red chillies broken
  9. A sprig of curry leaves
  10. salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. In a kadhai or heavy bottom pan, add water & bring it to a boil.
  2. Add salt to the boiling water, reduce the flame and then slowly incorporate the rice flour.
  3. Keep stirring it nicely in order to avoid lumps for 2-3 mins on low flame.
  4. Once the water has evaporated and a dough is formed, switch off the gas and cover the rice dough with a lid for 2-3 mins.
  5. Once the mixture is slightly cooled, make small sized balls.
  6. Place the rice balls in a steamer or a greased idli mould and steam them for 10 minutes.
  7. Once steamed, allow the steamed rice balls to cool slightly.
  8. In the kadhai or heavy bottom pan, add oil and once it heats, add the mustard seeds and allow it to crackle.
  9. Add a pinch of hing, urad dal, whole red chillies, red chilly powder and curry leaves.
  10. Now add the steamed rice balls & toss the mixture well.
  11. Switch off the flame. Serve hot with a chutney or it can be consumed as it is too.
