ABOUT Hanami dango RECIPE

Hanami means cherry blossom viewing and dango is sweet rice flour traditional dumplings eaten in japan during their picnics in spring season. It is a tri colour ( pink, white and green ) dumplings stacked onto a stick and served .I used orange colour instead of pink.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice Flour-1 cup
  2. Sugar-1/2 Cup
  3. Hot water-1/2 cup
  4. Food colours- red and green 1 drop each

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add rice flour, sugar and hot water and make a thick dough.
  2. Divide this dough into 3 portions and add red food colour/ pickled cherry blossom flower and green colour/ motcha green tea/ traditional mugwort grass to 2 portions and knead well.
  3. Make small balls and boil in hot water for 8 min till they float. Boil white balls first and then pink balls and green at last.after boiling, drop them into cold water .
  4. Remove from cold water and stack them onto sticks in the order of pink, white and green.
  5. Pink represents the cherry blossom flowering throughout the spring in japan( which makes japan look pink in scenary)
  6. Now we are ready for picnic with our hanami dango in spring season.
