Bihari Kadhi Badi is one of the most loved dish in Bihar. Any auspicious occasion is incomplete without feasting on Kadhi Badi. This recipe goes great with roti or rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Kadhi : 1 Cup, sour yogurt
  2. 2 tbsp, gram flour (besan)
  3. ½ tsp, turmeric powder
  4. Red Chili Powder, to taste
  5. Salt, to taste
  6. 1 tsp, coriander powder
  7. For Badi : 1 Cup, gram flour (besan)
  8. 1 tsp, carom seeds
  9. ½ tsp, turmeric powder
  10. ½ tsp, onion seeds
  11. 2 tbsp, chopped onions
  12. Salt, to taste
  13. Red Chili Powder, to taste
  14. Oil , to deep fry
  15. For Tempering : 1 tsp, cumin seeds
  16. 3, whole dried red chillies
  17. few curry leaves
  18. 1 tsp, ginger-garlic paste
  19. 1 tbsp, oil

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and mix all the badi ingredients together and make a thick paste with water and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  2. For Kadhi, mix together yogurt and gram flour, salt and spices and about 2 cups of water.
  3. Beat well so that no lumps remain and is smooth. You can add more water if you prefer thin gravy.
  4. For tempering, heat oil in a bigger vessel. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  5. Add whole red chillies and sauté till they release an aroma. Add curry leaves and ginger-garlic paste.
  6. Now add the kadhi mix and let it simmer on low flame for 15 minutes.
  7. In the meanwhile, deep fry the badi batter into small dumplings. I keep them small as they absorb the gravy fast. Put the badi in the kadhi gravy that is simmering away.
  8. Cover and cook for 5 more minutes.
  9. Serve with rice or roti.
