ABOUT Hyderabadi Chand Biscoot (Crescent Moon Cookies) RECIPE

Melt in mouth, white crescent moon shaped cookies are a popular sight in Hyderabad. Often served with Irani Chai, these are a much sought after cookies. Infact these cookies are sold by street vendors who go to every nook and corner of the city streets selling these scrumptious biscoots, as they are popularly referred to as by them. Nobody can just stop at one and these are practically finished in no time.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. All purpose flour or maida 200grams
  2. Powdered sugar 100 grams
  3. White butter or yellow butter unsalted 125 grams
  4. Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon
  5. Milk powder 2 tablespoon
  6. Condensed milk 1 tablespoon
  7. Milk 2 tablespoon
  8. Salt a pinch
  9. Dessicated coconut powder 1 tablespoon (optional)

Instructions

  1. First of all, beat sugar and butter until creamy.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients one by one and make a dough that is not a tight one but is more similar to that of a crumbly mix.
  3. Keep it in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes covered properly.
  4. Preheat the oven on 180°for 10 minutes.
  5. With the help of a rolling pin, roll it into a rectangular shape.
  6. Using the hands, try to gather it close and tap it to keep in shape because this dough breaks down easily as there is no binding agent in it.
  7. Using a round cookie cutter or any sharp edged glass or bowl, cut crescent moon shapes.
  8. Collect the remaining dough and follow the same until you finish it off fully.
  9. Arrange these in a baking tray lined with the parchment paper.
  10. Bake on for 15 minutes. They should retain their colour and take care not to brown them much.
  11. Serve them with the most popular Irani Chai.
