A great warming dish that is lovely with hot soup and buttered toast.

Cheesy Spinach Potato Gratin

Ingredients to make Cheesy Spinach Potato Gratin

  • 4-5 potatoes(medium sized)
  • 1 bunch Fresh spinach
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 50gms butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • Freshly grated Black pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese

How to make Cheesy Spinach Potato Gratin

  1. Preheat oven to 200 deg C. Peel and slice the potatoes evenly. Wash and chop the spinach
  2. In a large saucepan melt butter over gentle heat, add in the onions and saute till pink.
  3. Add the flour and roast lightly.
  4. Gradually add in the Milk and stir well to avoid lumps.
  5. The Milk will thicken, remove from heat and add in the sliced potatoes, spinach, cream, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  6. Transfer to a large baking dish. Sprinkle cheese on top. Bake for 30-40 minutes or till potatoes are tender.

My Tip:

You can parboil the potato slices to minimize cooking time. Try and slice potatoes evenly so that they are cooked well.
