ABOUT Hungarian Pogacsa RECIPE

A traditional Hungarian bread that's more like a scone and eaten with just about anything

Ingredients Serving: 12

  1. 1/2 cup warm milk
  2. 1 tsp yeast
  3. 1/2 tsp sugar
  4. 2 cups flour
  5. 70 grams cheese cheedar or gruyere
  6. 1 tsp Salt
  7. 1 egg
  8. 100 grams soft butter
  9. 1/4 to 1/2 cup sour cream
  10. For the egg wash
  11. 1 egg
  12. 2 tblsp water
  13. 50 grams cheese of your choice

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix the milk sugar and yeast. Let it stand in a warm place until frothy, almost 15 minutes.
  2. In a bowl mix together the flour, salt, cheese, butter, egg and the yeast mixture. Bring it all together and add in 1/4 cup of sour cream and knead, adding more sour cream if required. Knead for at least 4 minutes.
  3. Stretch the dough onto a flat pan like a jelly roll pan and let it sit in a warm corner for about 2 minutes
  4. Roll the dough again and then cut out circles . Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle cheese.
  5. Bake at 250 degree centigrade for about 25 minutes. Or until the tops are brown.
