ABOUT Baked Khasta Methi Mathris Canapes with Cream Cheese RECIPE

Methi(fenugreek) Mathris are very popular North Indian snack. They are mostly deep-fried in hot oil and made with refined flour, but my version is full of health as they are made with 100 % whole wheat flour and baked.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  2. 2 tbsp dried fenugreek leaves(Kasuri Methi)
  3. ½ tsp cumin powder
  4. ½ tsp coriander powder
  5. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  6. Salt to taste
  7. A pinch of turmeric powder
  8. ¼ cup ghee(clarified butter)
  9. Water as required for kneading the dough
  10. ½ cup cream cheese
  11. 1 tbsp dried mixed herbs
  12. 1 tbsp fine chopped garlic(or garlic powder)
  13. Some Chopped Pickled Onions(Vinegar Onions)
  14. 1 tbsp fine chopped coriander
  15. 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Take flour, cumin powder, coriander powder,Kasuri methi, salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder in a bowl and mix well
  2. Add ghee to this and mix it with the flour by rubbing between your palms
  3. Now start adding water little by little and make a soft smooth dough
  4. Switch on the oven for preheating at 180 degrees
  5. Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes or until the sides are golden
  6. Cool & Store in an airtight jar, they stay well up to 3 weeks
  7. For Topping - Take the cream cheese in a bowl and mix garlic and dried herbs and lemon juice to it. Take it out in a piping bag fixed with a star nozzle
  8. Pipe the cream cheese over mathris and finally garnish with the chopped vinegar onions and chopped coriander
