Ingredients to make Beetroot Patties

  • 2 medium sized beetroots, grated
  • 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 3/4 tsp aamchoor powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp chat masala powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 4-5 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp flour, to coat
  • Handful of coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • oil to deep fry

How to make Beetroot Patties

  1. Start by boiling the potatoes, then mash and keep aside. Grate the beetroots and also finely chop the onion and green chillies.
  2. Take a pan and heat in a little oil . Add in the chopped onion and grated beetroot. Saute this well for 2-3 minutes . After this time, keep it aside to cool.
  3. Now add in the mashed potatoes, green chillies, chopped coriander leaves and all the masala powders along with salt. Make sure to mix this mixture properly and also adjust the salt as per taste.
  4. Next, divide this beetroot dough into medium equally sized balls.
  5. Take a bowl , mix in the flour with 2-3 tbsp of water. The batter should not be too thick or have any lumps. Also spread the breadcrumbs and keep them ready in a flat plate.
  6. Take a cutlet and to coat it with the flour mixture, then with the bread crumbs. Repeat this process for the rest of the patties. Cover and keep these cutlets in the refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil as required to deep fry in a kadai. Once the is hot, deep fry these patties until they turn golden brown in colour from all angles.
  8. Place these patties on absorbent paper so that the excess oil can be drained.
  9. Serve these beetroot patties hot with mint/coriander chutney or ketchup.

My Tip:

Note that you can also opt to shallow fry these patties. Either way they taste really good.
