ABOUT Nawabi Bitter Melon RECIPE

This is my new innovative dish where I have given Bitter Melon or Karela a totally different flavor. This is something very different from the traditional karela. Prepare it whenever you like to make as it doesn’t require any fancy ingredients

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 medium sized Bitter Melons
  2. 1 medium sized onion chopped
  3. 1 large tomato chopped
  4. 1 inch ginger chopped
  5. 2 green chilies chopped
  6. 1 tbsp Almond Powder
  7. 3 tbsp + 1 tsp Oil
  8. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  9. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. 1/4 cup beaten curd
  12. 1 tbsp Gram flour
  13. 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
  14. 1 tbsp Sour cream
  15. 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi
  16. 1 tsp Gram Masala Powder
  17. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  18. 1/8 tsp hing

Instructions

  1. Cut the Bitter Melon into thin slices. Sprinkle some salt on them and rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and hing and saute for a minute.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook till they are translucent.
  4. Now add chopped green chilies and ginger into it and saute for a minute. Cook them on low flame for about 2 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes into it and saute till soft. Add Almond powder and mix well
  6. Now add Gram Flour, Coriander Powder ,Turmeric Powder and mix them well
  7. Add the beaten curd and mix it quickly and thoroughly. Add 2 cups of water and mix
  8. Add salt and mix well. Simmer and cook on low flame. Meanwhile wash and squeeze the Bitter Melon.
  9. Heat 1 tsp oil in a separate pan. Now add the sliced Bitter Melon and saute for 2-3 minutes until they are slight golden color
  10. Now add these Bitter melons in the Onion tomato gravy. Mix them well.
  11. Let it cook on 7-8 minute on lowest flame. Add cream and mix well.
  12. Add Crushed kasuri methi leaves , Garam Masala and gently mix
  13. Garnish with chopped Coriander leaves and serve hot
