ABOUT Palak Chicken RECIPE

This is a hearty and a wholesome dish from the Northern regions of India, especially Punjab. It is the most common item on the menu of any given restaurant and is equally enjoyed by everyone. After Tandoori Chicken and Butter Chicken, this dish has gained worldwide recognition outside India too. Served mostly in dhabas across the country, it remains the most popular side dish.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 500 gms. boneless chicken, cubed
  2. 2-3 bunches of spinach, blanched & pureed
  3. 2 onions, chopped
  4. 1 tomato, chopped
  5. 1 tbsp. ginger-garlic paste
  6. 2 tbsp. oil
  7. 1 tbsp. ghee (clarified butter)
  8. salt to taste
  9. 1 tbsp. red chili powder
  10. 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  11. 1 tsp. garam masala powder
  12. 1/2 cup whisked yogurt
  13. 1 tbsp. butter
  14. 1 tsp. kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves), crushed

Instructions

  1. Grind the onions, tomatoes and ginger-garlic paste. Keep aside.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp.oil and shallow fry the chicken cubes till light brown. Keep aside.
  3. Add the remaining oil and ghee. Saute the paste till oil separates from the sides of the pan.
  4. Add the pureed spinach, chicken, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, yogurt, 2 tbsp. water and garam masala powder.
  5. Simmer and cook on low flame till the gravy is slightly thick.
  6. Serve hot garnished with kasuri methi, butter, onion rings, lemon wedges and chillies

Can I use ghee in the place of butter?
