Ingredients to make Spicy Methi Fish/ Methi machli (Fish in green methi gravy)

  • Fish pieces 4 large pieces
  • Methi/fenugreek leaves 3 cups packed
  • onion slices 3 large onion
  • tomato 1 chopped
  • ginger paste 1 tea spoon
  • Garlic paste 1/2 tea spoon
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • sugar 1 tsp
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • cumin pwd 1 tsp
  • Garam masala pwd 1 tsp
  • ghee 2 tsp
  • Green chili slitted 6
  • mustard oil for frying

How to make Spicy Methi Fish/ Methi machli (Fish in green methi gravy)

  1. Smear the fish pieces with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Heat oil in a pan.
  5. Shallow fry fish pieces until golden.
  6. Heat oil in another pan.
  7. Add sliced onion. Make them brown.
  8. Now add methi leaves and cook until wilt.
  9. Add chopped tomato.
  10. Cook for 5 minutes.
  11. Add 1/2 cup water and cool it.
  12. Make a paste out of it.
  13. Add this spice mix and cook for 5 minutes.
  14. Add all the dry masala, salt and sugar.
  15. Stir continuously until oil comes out.
  16. Now add the fish pieces and some water.
  17. Cook covered 5 minutes.
  18. Add the slitted green chili and ghee.
  19. Keep covered until served.

My Tip:

Serve hot with steamed rice, pulao, naan etc.

Doesn't methi turns bitter if u make paste out of it. I think instead of grinding slow gas cooking will work better.
