Ingredients to make Sai Bhaji( Palak and Lentil Mix)

  • spinach 400 gram washed and chopped
  • coriander leaves handful chopped
  • fenugreek (methi) leaves a few chopped
  • Dil leaves optional (Sua) a few leaves
  • onions 1 small chopped
  • tomatoes 2 big chopped
  • green chillies 2 chopped
  • ginger 1/2 inch grated
  • Channa dal 1/4 cup soaked for at least 1,/2 hour
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • red chilli powder 1/2 teapoon
  • coriander powder 2 teadpoon
  • salt to taste
  • garlic 5 cloves chopped
  • Oil for sauteing garlic

How to make Sai Bhaji( Palak and Lentil Mix)

  1. In a pressure cooker, add chopped spinach, fresh coriander , methi leaves, onion, tomatoes , ginger and green chillies.
  2. Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, red chilli powder.
  3. Add 1/2 cup water.
  4. Close the lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
  5. Once pressure is released open the cooker and slightly mash the spinach.
  6. Add the soaked chana dal and a little more water if needed.
  7. Pressure cook for 15 minutes on slow flame.
  8. Once pressure is released check the dal if it is creamy soft. Do not mash
  9. Take 3 tablespoon oil in a pan and saute garlic till brown in colour (be careful not to burn)
  10. Pour this hot oil with garlic on the saibhaji.
  11. Serve hot with roti, pulao or khichdi.

My Tip:

If you are cooking in normal cookpot, adjust quantity of water. You can also add chana dal altogether and pressure cook.
