Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients to make Shepherd's Pie

  • 500 gm Potatoes peeled
  • 3-4 Cloves roasted garlic
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste
  • 500 g Minced beef/lamb/mutton
  • 1/2 cup Mushrooms chopped
  • 1/2 cup Frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup Corn
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup Beef stock/water
  • Oil/butter as required
  • Thyme/bay leaves for seasoning

How to make Shepherd's Pie

  1. Soft boil the potatoes and add garlic. Mash thoroughly and keep aside.
  2. On a low flame, heat a pan and throw in some butter, the mashed potatoes and stir the milk in so that you get a stiff mash.
  3. Season the mash with salt and pepper at this stage.
  4. Add oil/butter in a pan, saute garlic paste, onions, mushroom, tomato paste, beef/lamb. Add the beef stock/water.
  5. Cook the ingredients in the stock and stir in peas and corn. Add salt, pepper, thyme/bay leaves. Cook for another 5 mins.
  6. Pour the meat mixture in oven-friendly dish, top with mashed potato mixture. Brush it with butter.
  7. Broil the pie in pre-heated oven for some time until its cooked.
  8. Serve hot.
My Tip: Any meat can be used -beef/pork/lamb. If beef stock is not available, use normal water.
