Godhuma ravva/ broken wheat is a good source of fibre and is rich in magnesium, vitamin B1, B2 , high in proteins and low in calories. Promotes digestion. It can be consumed by toddlers , elderly as well as pregnant women.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Godhuma ravva/ broken wheat- 1 cup
  2. Caramel sugar (optional for babies) – 1/2 cup
  3. Grated Jaggery – 1/2 cup ( for adults ) / 1/4 cup ( for toddlers)
  4. Water – 3 cups ( for adults) / 4 cups ( for toddlers)
  5. Clarified butter/ ghee – 4 – 5 tablespoons
  6. Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Almonds – 5 to 6
  8. Cashew nuts – 5 to 6
  9. Raisins – 8 to 10

Instructions

  1. Take a heavy bottomed pan, put some clarified butter/ ghee into it and fry the dry fruits. Turn off the flame. Keep aside.
  2. Heat another pan and roast the broken wheat/ godhuma ravva on a low flame till it turns brown in color.
  3. Pour water into the above pan and allow the broken wheat/ godhuma ravva to cook for 10-12 minutes or until the broken wheat is completely cooked. You can also pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  4. In the meantime prepare caramel sugar by placing sugar in a sauce pan over medium – high heat until it melts and turns to brown color, the pan must not be stirred.
  5. Then remove the saucepan from stove by turning off the flame and submerge its bottom in a vessel with water.
  6. Put the above prepared caramel sugar into the cooked godhuma ravva/ broken wheat pan and continue cooking by adding mashed jaggery.
  7. Stir thoroughly on a low -medium flame, such that each and every morsel mixes well with the jaggery and caramel sugar.
  8. Now add the already roasted dry fruits, cardamom powder and clarified butter/ ghee.
  9. Mix well. Serve warm or cool.
