About Tagine Chicken Recipe

A popular dish which can be cooked with any meat, a sour and tangy flavoured dish which can be enjoyed with roti or rice

Tagine Chicken

Ingredients to make Tagine Chicken

  • 1 kg chicken with bones cut into pieces
  • 2 onions finely chopped
  • 3-4 garlic cloves chopped
  • 2 pieces of lemon pickle
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp saffron in warm water
  • salt to taste

How to make Tagine Chicken

  1. Heat tagine (heavy bottomed shallow pan with lid) on low heat.
  2. Add oil, then add onions. Mash garlic and add to the pan. Add a little salt.
  3. Now add coarsely chopped pulp of lemon pickle. Sprinkle ginger, cinnamon, saffron water, lemon juice. Add the chopped coriander and toss all together.
  4. Place the chicken pieces of top. Pour 150 ml water in the pan, cover and simmer for 45 mins until chicken is cooked.
  5. Season with coriander leaves.
