ABOUT Little Millet Vegetable Upma RECIPE

Little millet called as Samai in tamil. It is a healthy food,and helps in easy digestion, reduces cholestrol and in reducing weight loss.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 tbsp cooking oil
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1 tsp channa dhal
  4. pinch of asafoetida
  5. 1/2 tsp ginger,finely chopped
  6. 3 red chillies,dried
  7. 1 sprig curry leaves
  8. 1/2 medium size onion,sliced
  9. 1/2 medium size tomato,finely chopped
  10. 1/4 cup carrot,finely chopped
  11. 1/2 cup green peas,frozen
  12. 2 cups of water
  13. 1 cup little millet,washed twice
  14. salt ,as required
  15. 1 tsp coconut oil
  16. few coriander leaves,

Instructions

  1. Heat cooking oil in a cooker,add mustard seeds and channa dhal. Let it splutter.
  2. Then add asafoetida, red chillies,ginger,onions and curry leaves and fry a minute. Then add tomatoes,cook till it turns little mushy.Then add carrot and peas,fry a second.
  3. Add 2 cups of water,allow it to boil.Then add washed little millet,salt,coconut oil and coriander leaves.Close the lid and cook in a medium high flame(15 min) for 1 min.Serve hot with sambar or coconut chutney.
