ABOUT Burghul (Broken Wheat) Porridge for Babies RECIPE

Broken Wheat (Burghul) or Dalia Porridge is a healthy breakfast for babies. This porridge is a good source of carbohydrates and protein thus making it an ideal breakfast to pep up the babies . Bulghur porridge can be cooked quickly. It can be sweetened with jaggery or mishri (for babies) as well as eaten as a savoury porridge.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Burghul (broken wheat) 1/4 cup
  2. Jaggery 50grams
  3. Water 1 cup
  4. Ghee 1 tablespoon
  5. Salt a pinch
  6. Cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Almond Powder 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker
  2. Add the burghul to the ghee and roast it for a few minutes on medium heat gently stirring throughout
  3. Add the cardamom powder and a pinch of salt whilst roasting burgul
  4. When burghul is golden brown in colour, add the water.
  5. Cover and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
  6. Let pressure release and open lid.
  7. Mash the burghul and smoothen out a bit.
  8. Add jaggery and almond powder
  9. Finally , if needed add in a little more water to make a thick porridge
  10. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes
  11. Serve hot
