Veg Momo's

Ingredients to make Veg Momo's

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • generous pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup finely sliced cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped carrot
  • 1/4 cup chopped spring onions
  • 12-15 pods of garlic peeled
  • salt and black pepper as required
  • 1/2 tsp soya sauce
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 finely chopped green chilli
  • 8 dried red chillies (add less or more acc to preference)
  • 2 tomatoes blanched and skin removed

How to make Veg Momo's

  1. for the dough- Combine flour with salt and 1/2 tsp oil and knead well, it should be a stiff dough.Cover with cling film and keep aside.
  2. Finely chop 6 pods of garlic, heat 2 tbsp oil and saute the garlic. Add spring onions followed by all the chopped veggies, after a minute add soya, 1/2 tsp vinegar, salt and pepper and green chillies. Cook for 10 minutes, till veggies are tender.
  3. Pinch off small balls of dough and roll out in a thin circle, place a tbsp of cooled veg filling in the center. Moisten edges with a little water and bring together, pinch to seal in a half moon shape. Prepare all the momos in a similiar way and keep covered.
  4. Heat water in a steamer/ pressure cooker, place momos a little apart and steam for 5 minutes.
  5. While momos are steaming, make the dipping sauce by combining the red chillies, leftover garlic and tomatoes in a blender. Blend to a coarse puree. Heat 1/2 tbsp oil and pour this puree into it, season with salt and 1/2 tsp vinegar. Cook till thick. Remove and cool.
  6. Enjoy piping hot steamed momos with the chilli garlic dip in one bowl and mayonnaise in another!

My Tip:

You can also pan fry these momo's after steaming to get a crisp outer shell.
